This is perhaps a view north-east from the Great Beach at Margate, showing figures at leisure at the foot of the low chalk cliffs formerly marking Fort Point, which appear on the right of a definite blue paper drawing of the scene (Tate D20319; Turner Bequest CCXXIV 29). Technical notes:
The colours have faded a little from prolonged display, especially the yellow sand except where the edge was protected by a mount.
