On the left, the jetty of Jarvis’s Landing Place runs north off Margate’s Great Beach, with a steamer out in the Thames Estuary beyond. There are figures with a small boat at the water’s edge below the chalk cliffs of Fort Point on the right; compare the wider view in another blue paper drawing, Tate D20319 (Turner Bequest CCXXIV 29), and for more details of the Margate setting, see the Introduction to this subsection.
Technical notes:
The particularly pale blue paper used here is comparable to that used for another Margate view (Tate D24948; Turner Bequest CCLX 112).
