Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, this slight study shows the sails of three windmills together with other structures, perhaps on the Channel coast near Folkestone (see under folio 5 verso; D35496). There is a closer view on folio 7 recto opposite (D35499). See the sketchbook’s Introduction for the many slight coastal views scattered through it.
Technical notes:
There is some brown staining at the gutter, possibly indicating water damage in the 1928 Tate flood.
