Inverted relative to the sketchbooks foliation is a horizon line briefly continued from the view of cliffs on folio 11 verso opposite (D35508). At the outer edge with the page turned vertically is a slight view of what appear to be coastal features, possibly inscribed above ‘IoW’ for Isle of Wight or simple ‘low’ (see also folio 10 recto; D35505). See the sketchbook’s Introduction for the many slight coastal views and inscribed studies of clouds and the sun over the sea scattered through it.
Technical notes:
There is some brown staining at the gutter, possibly indicating water damage in the 1928 Tate flood.
