With the page turned vertically. The upper half is taken up with a vigorous study which seems to show a sailing boat off a Channel coastline. Turner’s comment below it is illegible. See the sketchbook’s Introduction for the many slight coastal views scattered through it.
At the gutter is a slight continuation of one of the horizontal view at Eu on folio 41 recto opposite (D35559)
Technical notes:
There is some brown staining at the gutter, possibly indicating water damage in the 1928 Tate flood.
