The north end of the Louis-Philippe’s chateau is seen from the Allée du Bastion, with the spire of the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame and Saint-Laurent on the left to the south-east; see under folio 21 verso (D35540) for other views.
The blank recto in inscribed by John Ruskin in red ink ‘45’ and stamped in black ‘CCCLXI – 45’ at the bottom right. For numerous instances of blank, unaccessioned rectos in this sketchbook, see the technical notes in the Introduction.
Technical notes:
There is some brown staining at the gutter, possibly indicating water damage in the 1928 Tate flood.
