At the top is a hurried view of Eu, looking north-west past the east end of the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame and Saint-Laurent along Place Isabelle d’Orléans to the roofline of the Château d’Eu. The church is continued a little way onto folio 103 recto opposite (D35673). For other views, see under folio 21 verso (D35525).
Inverted at the bottom is an unrelated drawing of cliffs, presumably on a Channel coast. See the sketchbook’s Introduction for the many slight coastal views scattered through it. Finberg’s title, ‘Cliffs – “Richboro’.”’,1 stems from his coupling this page with D35673 opposite, where Turner’s inscription appears, although the present view seems unrelated.

Finberg 1909, II, p.1174.
Technical notes:
There is some brown staining at the gutter, possibly indicating water damage in the 1928 Tate flood.
