With the sketchbook turned vertically, Turner composes two drawings on this page, which Finberg describes as ‘Scenes on river’.1 The top prospect shows a keep, or fort, on the bank of the river very close to the water’s edge. Further down, a second view describes a tall church at right, elaborated with briefly recorded topography across to the left.
