Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Turner filled this page with views of the terrain around the River Morlaix in Brittany. Tate curator Ian Warrell has identified the large building included amongst these views as the Monastery of Saint-François-de-Cumbrien, a little to the north of the town of Morlaix.1 The central sketch continues onto folio 10 recto opposite (D23028; Turner Bequest CCXLVII 10). Drawings of this landscape feature on multiple pages in this part of the volume, a list of which is included in the sketchbook introduction.
