With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with a studies of the coastal terrain and buildings of Brittany. Tate curator Ian Warrell has suggested that the drawings depict the settlement of Le Conquet and its environs which feature on several pages in this part of the volume.1 A list of these is provided in the sketchbook introduction.
