With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled the upper half of this page with sketches of a monumental interior with a flight of steps and columns. These were presumably taken in a church in one the towns of the Cotentin Peninsula in Normandy which the artists recorded extensively in this volume. The sweeping coastal terrain depicted directly below was probably also located in this region. For the major sites covered by this contents of this volume, see the sketchbook introduction.
