With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled this page with studies of a harbour and hillside with substantial buildings. The artist recorded several coastal towns of the Cotentin Peninsula in Normandy in this volume, including Cherbourg and Granville. A list of these drawings is provided in the sketchbook introduction for comparison.
