With the sketchbook turned horizontally, Turner filled the upper half of this page with sketches of the island-settlement Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy. In the lower half of the page is sketch of the cathedral at Coutances, which continues onto folio 52 verso (D23436; Turner Bequest CCL 52a). Multiple pages in this volume feature sketches of these sites, a list of which is included in the sketchbook introduction.
