Turner specialist, Ian Warrell, has identified this sketch as a view of the Quai de la Fosse in Nantes.1 Turner may have used it to work up a colour study of the Bourse as viewed from the quaysides of this Breton city; see entry for Tate D24575 (Turner Bequest CCLIX 10).
