Turner worked up this colour study on blue paper of the medieval tower at Oudon from sketches he made in the Nantes, Angers and Saumur sketchbook during his 1826 tour of the Loire Valley. See entry for Tate D23174 (Turner Bequest CCXLVIII 12a).1
