Like the other works grouped here, this relates to the arrival of Louis-Philippe, King of the French, at Portsmouth Harbour on 8 October 1844, as discussed in the Introductions to this subsection and the overall section.1 Here, the extensive washes of pale brown with a distant strip of speckled blue makes the boundaries of the shore and water rather indeterminate. The marks at the lower right appear to indicate figures, while bunting flies from the masts at the left; see the subsections Introduction for other examples.2
