Most of the page is taken up with annotated studies of figures and costumes, including that of a monk, and a cart or trolley with a large brass-bound barrel. For the few other pages with figures in this book, see under folio 1 recto (D14489).
At the gutter is a very slight continuation of a figure and architectural details; the page is now bound opposite folio 28 recto (D14535; Turner Bequest CLXXVI 26a), a full-page view south along the Piazza del Nettuno in Bologna, and the receding lines drawn here appear to match those in the main drawing, but see the remarks below and in the Introduction for possible confusion over the page order. For Bologna and Turner’s numerous views on adjacent pages, see under folio 24 recto (D14532).
Finberg noted of the pages he designated Turner Bequest CLXXVI 26a–h (D14535D14542): ‘The following four leaves were found loose, but appear to belong here.’1 Their presence as now bound at this stage of the sketchbook affects its foliation sequence compared to Finberg’s numbering; see the concordance in the Introduction.
