Inscribed in pencil by Turner and others with phrases in German and English (transcribed in full in main catalogue entry)
Stamped in black ‘CCCI’ top centre
Here Turner and possibly two other contributors have inscribed phrases in German and English, which continue on the folio opposite (Tate D30296; Turner Bequest CCCI 1). They are transcribed thus:

Can ich platz neem
[...] verda ich [...]
Can ich [...] Engang
Can ich danin gehen
Dahin
[...] glass of WW [...]
Chaudeau
M[...] al[...]
[...]’
Similar phrases can be found on Tate D30373, D30888–D30889, D31020–D31026, D41212; Turner Bequest CCCI 40a, CCCVI 1–1a, CCCVII 1–4. These presumably would have been of great use to Turner as he travelled around Prussia.
