Here Turner has drawn a view of the Saxon capital Dresden; it extends onto the folio opposite (Tate D30904; Turner Bequest CCCVI 11). The drawing was taken from the gardens on the upper level of the Zwinger, looking out towards the Bridge, Hofkirche, Wall Pavilion and Schloss. For more sketches of Dresden see Tate D30296–D30308, D30896–D30900, D31024–D31042; Turner Bequest CCCI 1–7, CCCVI 6a–9, CCCVII 3–12.
Below the view of Dresden, and orientated inversely to it, is a cursory sketch of the Schloss Weesenstein, a castle in the Mueglitz Valley south of Dresden (see Tate D30901–D30916; Turner Bequest CCCVI 9a–17).
