This sketch depicts the Elbe valley in Saxon Switzerland. Lilienstein Mountain can be seen in the middle distance. Festung Königstein, a fortress that was once the residence of the Electors and Kings of Saxony, is rendered in a slight jotting at top right. The stronghold is shown again on Tate D30931–D30947, D30949; Turner Bequest CCCVI 24a–32a, 33a.
