This jotting shows a rock formation in Saxon Switzerland called the Höllergrund (inscribed by Turner ‘Heler rund’), which translates ‘Hell’s Bottom’. It is recorded again in similar rough sketches on Tate D31003–D31004; Turner Bequest CCCVI 60a–61.
