This is a prospect of Berlin looking westwards along the River Spree. At right is the Waisenbrücke, the Waisenhauskirche (The Orphan’s Bridge and Church of the Orphanage) and Marienkirche. Nikolaikirche can be seen in the distance with the domed Neue Kirche (New Church) and French Church. Turner has inscribed the number ‘3’ at top left and the words ‘Light’ and ‘Mar’ (against the Marienkirche) at top right.
