Here Turner depicts a barge moored at Stettin Harbour; luggage and various pieces of equipment litter the quayside. Above the boat are isolated jottings of figures gathered at the port and a series of wooden carts. Turner has annotated the sketch with a number of inscriptions: ‘Light yellow Fore sail’, ‘Brown Dray’, ‘Green’ and ‘Red’ by the figure of a woman in the foreground. All inscriptions are transcribed in full above.
For other sketches of Stettin see Tate D31083–D31093, D31095–D31106; Turner Bequest CCCVII 32a–37a, 38a–44.
