Here Turner depicts Rotterdam’s Cathedral of St Lawrence, from Holk harbour. The dome of St Dominicus can be seen behind it, adjacent to an inscription reading ‘RW’. Vessels are moored on the quayside.

Inscribed in red ink by Ruskin ‘2’ and stamped in black ‘CCCXXI–2’, bottom right.
