Inscribed by Turner in red gouache ‘10’ (altered in black to ‘12’) top left and ‘Vernon’ towards top left, and respectively in ink and pencil ‘3’ and ‘4’ immediately adjacent below first number
Inscribed in pencil ‘CCLIX . 129’ and ‘14’ below centre
Stamped in black with Turner Bequest monogram over ‘CCLIX – 129’ towards bottom centre
This is the verso of Vernon, a Wanderings by the Seine subject (D24694; Turner Bequest CCLIX 129). Turner’s gouache inscriptions on the backs of the series are not recorded in Finberg’s 1909 Inventory.1
