Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
As identified by Cecilia Powell,1 with the page turned horizontally this Passau view is to the north-east from near the south end of the Marienbrücke, across the River Inn to the twin towers of St Michael’s Church, with the Oberhaus fortress further off at the top left, overlooking the River Danube on the far side of the Altstadt peninsula on which the city centre stands. The view is continued to the left with a separate full-page drawing on folio 31 recto (D30058), under which other Passau views are noted.
