J.M.W. Turner: Sketchbooks, Drawings and Watercolours

This is a view of Heidelberg’s old town taken from the Castle, near the foot of the ‘Great’ or ‘Fat Tower’. The tower was blown up during the Thirty Years’ War and still lies in ruin. The Church of the Holy Spirit is visible at left, and at centre, the old bridge crossing the Neckar.
