Two figures look out over Heidelberg and the Neckar valley from a hillside terrace at Heidelberg Castle. The octagonal Bell Tower and the Castle’s eastern façade can be seen at left; this façade is continued in the sky above, where the Broken Tower and the Gate Tower can be seen. Turner has inscribed the numbers ‘6’, ‘3’, ‘6’, and ‘12’ to record the number of windows. The Church of the Holy Spirit and old bridge in Heidelberg are visible.
