With the sketchbook turned upside down relative to the foliation, a series of illegible inscriptions are written across the page. A distant prospect of a city is possibly depicted at centre, orientated inversely to the inscriptions and in accordance with the foliation. Part of a view of Heidelberg extended from the folio opposite (Tate D29841; Turner Bequest CCXCVIII 14a) is visible at bottom right.
