For Andernach in this sketchbook see notes to folio 49 recto (D12881; Turner Bequest CLX 92v). Inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, at the top of the page is a careful study, with architectural details, of the town from outside the walls with, from left to the right, the Annunziatenkloster, Rund Turm (to which Turner’s note presumably refers) and four–towered Liebfrauenkirche.
Below, within a drawn outline, is a small and schematic sketch of a similar view including the medieval crane. The lower half of the page is occupied by a view from the landing–stage, with the crane beyond on the left, looking down the Rhine towards Leutesdorf.
