The notes on the systems underlying the two works by Ad Dekkers [see also note on T01785] are based on explanations given by the artist in September 1973.
Both works are square (120 x 120cm) and have four short horizontal or vertical lines cut into the chipboard with a milling machine; these lines indicate the beginning of a regular grid dividing the square into nine equal smaller squares. In T01784 all four lines are equal in length (10cm). However the line on the left starts from the edge, the one next to it at the top is set 10cm (its own length) in from the edge, the following one on the right is 20cm (twice its own length) in from the edge, and so on.
