A portrait of Miss Norah Ellen Fry, the midwife who attended the artist's wife's first confinement in 1939. Sister Fry would be about twenty-nine or thirty years of age at the time of the portrait; the badge she is wearing shows that she trained at the Royal Hospital, Richmond, where she was a student from 1930 to 1933.
