The motif of a woman trading from a wheelbarrow recurs on the back of one of Turner’s academy studies (Tate D40224; verso of Turner Bequest X A), and as part of the staffage in a drawing of Henry VII’s Chapel, Westminster in a private collection, which dates from 1791. All the studies are inverted relative to the sketchbook’s foliation.
