This is after a drawing by John Robert Cozens (1752–1797), recorded in Beaumont tracing no.64 (after Cozens; Yale Center for British Art, New Haven).1 Bell and Girtin describe the subject as a view ‘From near Formia looking across the bay, the promontory in the middle of the picture, wooded foreground’.
