The list of drawing tools on this page, inverted along with the drawing relative to the sketchbook’s foliation, may be related to Turner’s activities as a teacher. The first record of any of his drawing pupils is in this book, on folio 17 recto (D00280), where a Major Frazer is noted as having contracted for eight lessons.
