Not mentioned in Finberg’s 1909 Turner Bequest catalogue,1 this rapid sketch, affected by colour smears and stains, may relate to Turner’s ideas for his picture of Bristol Hot Wells, for which an elaborate study is on the recto of this sheet (D00389; Turner Bequest XXII O).
