Inscribed by John Ruskin in red ink ‘42’ and blue ink ‘21’ bottom right
Stamped ‘LXXV 43’ bottom left, descending vertically
Blind-stamped with the Turner Bequest monogram towards bottom right
Turner’s label, numbered ‘21’ as is the drawing, reads ‘le Arve – Salenche. Savoy’, and may have accounted for the location suggested by Finberg, ‘Possibly Sallanches’. The humped bridge must be that over the River Arve at St Martin. For St Martin and Sallanches in this sketchbook see notes to D04602; Turner Bequest LXXV 10.
The sheet is damaged and repaired at the bottom left corner.
