Finberg plausibly suggests that this composition study shows Flint Castle;1 the drawing is a variant of the design found on folios 87 recto and 88 recto (D04102, D04103; Turner Bequest LXIX 88, 89); see also folios 1 recto and 5 recto (D03994, D03998). The study of ships and figures on a beach on folio 9 recto (D04003) is apparently from the same sequence of sketches.
Other studies of Flint Castle are in the Dolbadarn sketchbook (Tate D02012, D02013; Turner Bequest XLVI 13a, 14).
