The subject is continued on folio 148 recto opposite (D03198; Turner Bequest LVI 146). A slightly different view of the cathedral was made in the Smaller Fonthill sketchbook (Tate; Turner Bequest XLVIII, now largely dispersed); see the ‘Architectural and Other Subjects c.1797–1807’ section of this catalogue, where it is listed in the Smaller Fonthill book’s Introduction as no.39 (Ashmolean Museum, Oxford).1 It was used for Dumblain Abbey, Scotland, engraved in 1816 for the Liber Studiorum (Tate impressions: A01117, A01118); see the entry for the watercolour design, Tate D08157 (Turner Bequest CXVIII C).
