Turner made a group of drawings in similar media and showing similar subject matter in the contemporary Lancashire and North Wales sketchbook (Tate D01920, D01987, D01990; Turner Bequest XLV 7a, 47, 50). Like them, this page may depict a scene in the Pass of Aberglaslyn, or it may perhaps show the peaks surrounding Nant Ffrancon from near Tryfan; compare the sequence of studies made in that area on folios 22 verso–23 recto (D02028–D02029) of the present book.
