These two sketches, made with the page turned horizontally and separated by a vertical line, may or may not have been drawn directly from nature. They may be related to his ideas for the large watercolour of Caernarvon Castle, North Wales, shown at the Royal Academy in 1800 (Tate D04164; Turner Bequest LXX M),1 though they are too slight to be confidently identified as elements in that work.
