Seven figures are assembled on a bench, their attention apparently focused on a fixed point. They are convulsed in silent laughter, the cause of which is unclear. The unsettling effect of the encounter is accentuated by Muñoz’s manipulation of scale. The figures are slightly smaller than life size. When seen from a distance, they appear to be of regular height; yet the slight reduction in size means that they still seem far away, even when viewed in close proximity. This optical device further emphasises the void between the figures and the viewer.
