In these five swiftly executed views Turner studies the Burg Thurandt overlooking the village of Alken on the Moselle from various angles. The artist has inscribed a note which appears to read ‘Wall [?Mending]’ at bottom left, though the sketch is too small and slight to see figures at work in this way.
