Across the upper and middle registers Turner has drawn two sketches of the towns of Roussy-le-Bourg and Roussy-le-Village, both orientated inversely relative to the foliation. Both towns are situated north of Thionville and Metz, within miles of the border with Luxembourg.
The sketch on the upper register continues onto the folio opposite (Tate D28239; Turner Bequest CCLXXXVIII 38). Turner has annotated the drawings with ‘Rouelburg’ and ‘Roussy’.
