This rather rough sketch probably depicts Gala Hill to the south of Galashiels in the Scottish Borders. Taken from the north side of the Gala Water, this is one of several sketches made as Turner travelled from Galashiels to Abbotsford and Melrose. There is a pale brown stain across the right of this page.
