Catalogue entry

This rather rough sketch probably depicts Gala Hill to the south of Galashiels in the Scottish Borders. Taken from the north side of the Gala Water, this is one of several sketches made as Turner travelled from Galashiels to Abbotsford and Melrose. For further references to sketches of Galashiels and details about the context of his visit to the town, see folio 42 verso (D26177).
There is a pale brown stain across the right of this page.
