This is a nearer view of the town than that on D01665 (Turner Bequest XLI 32) in this sketchbook. Turner may have used both drawings for reference when he made a further watercolour of Usk (Tate D01906; Turner Bequest XLIV d).
Technical notes:
The sheet is faded from exposure. Finberg noted that it had been withdrawn from the Loan Collection by 1909 on account of the indigo pigment fading in particular.1
