This is a nearer view of the town than that on D01665
(Turner Bequest XLI 32) in this sketchbook. Turner may have used both drawings for reference when he made a further watercolour of Usk (Tate D01906
; Turner Bequest XLIV d).
The sheet is faded from exposure. Finberg noted that it had been withdrawn from the Loan Collection by 1909 on account of the indigo pigment fading in particular.1
