Artist biography

Evelyn CHESTON 1875–1929

Landscape painter. Born 8 September 1875 at Ranmoor, Sheffield, née Davy. Studied at the Royal Female School of Art 1892–4 and at the Slade School 1894–9, where she shared a painting prize with Augustus John. Returned to Sheffield for four years and married Charles Cheston 1904. Worked frequently in Dorset and the Cotswolds. Exhibited at the N.E.A.C. from 1906; member 1909. Died at Musbury, near Axminster, Devon, 31 October 1929. Memorial exhibition at the R.W.S. Galleries 1929.
