Florence ENGELBACH 1872–1951
Painter, at first of portraits, after 1931 mainly of flowers and occasional landscapes. Born 9 June 1872 in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, of English parents. Studied at Westminster School of Art and the Slade School c. 1894 and in Paris. Began exhibiting at the R.A. 1901 under her maiden name Neumegen. Married C. R. F. Engelbach 1902. Started painting again c. 1930 after an interval of twenty years. First one-man exhibition at the Beaux Arts Gallery 1931; also exhibited at the R.A. 1934–40, R.O.I., National Society and the Paris Salon. Died in London 27 February 1951. Memorial exhibition at the Leicester Galleries 1951.
